What is TablePlus?

TablePlus is a native database GUI that runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It’s the go-to choice for developers who find DBeaver too clunky and want something faster than Electron-based tools. The native build gives it snappy performance even with large datasets.

Supported Databases

PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, CockroachDB, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, DynamoDB, and more.

Key Features

  • Inline editing: Click any cell to edit — changes are staged, not immediately saved. Review all pending changes in a diff view before committing.
  • Safe mode: Prevents accidental DML (UPDATE/DELETE without WHERE) from running
  • Connection groups: Organize dozens of connections by environment (dev/staging/prod)
  • Query editor: Full SQL editor with autocomplete, syntax highlighting, and execution history
  • Filter & sort: Visual table filtering without writing SQL

Best For

  • macOS developers who want a native, performant database GUI
  • Frontend/full-stack devs who want visual row editing over writing SQL
  • Teams managing multiple environments (dev/staging/prod) with connection groups
  • Anyone who finds DBeaver too heavy or ugly

Quick Start

Download from tableplus.com — native installers for macOS (.dmg), Windows (.exe), and Linux (.deb). No Electron, no Java runtime.

To connect to a remote database through SSH:

  1. Create a new connection → fill in the database host/port/credentials
  2. Enable Use SSH Tunnel → enter your jump host IP, SSH username, and key path
  3. TablePlus establishes the tunnel automatically before each session

For Supabase, PlanetScale, Neon, or other cloud Postgres providers, paste the connection string directly into the URL field — TablePlus parses it automatically.

Use Cases

Safe production data edits: The staged-edit model is critical for production work. Click to edit a cell, make changes across multiple rows, then review the generated SQL before hitting “Commit” — or cancel everything with one click. Combined with Safe Mode (which blocks WHERE-less deletes), this dramatically reduces the risk of accidental data loss.

Multi-environment management: Connection groups let you organize connections by environment with color-coding (red for production, yellow for staging, green for dev). A visual reminder that you’re in the production database prevents costly mistakes.

Inspecting Redis alongside SQL: TablePlus’s Redis support means you can browse cache keys, inspect values, and run commands in the same tool you use for PostgreSQL — useful when debugging cache invalidation issues or inspecting session storage.

Fast schema exploration during development: The schema sidebar lets you quickly browse tables, foreign keys, indexes, and views without writing SQL. When onboarding to a new codebase, this visual overview of the database structure is faster than reading migration files.
