What formats does the .env file manager support?▼

The tool parses standard .env format: KEY=value, KEY='value', KEY="value", and KEY=value with inline comments (# comment). It handles multiline values in double quotes, ignores blank lines and comment-only lines, and detects duplicate keys.

How do I convert .env to JSON or Docker format?▼

Paste your .env content, then use the Export buttons: JSON outputs a key-value object, Docker outputs --env KEY=VALUE flags for docker run, and Docker Compose outputs the 'environment:' section for docker-compose.yml.

What are common .env security mistakes?▼

Committing .env to Git (use .gitignore), using the same .env in development and production, storing secrets in .env.example files, using weak or default secrets, and sharing .env files via email or chat. Always use environment variables or a secrets manager in production — never deploy a .env file.

Should I commit .env files to Git?▼

No. .env files typically contain secrets (database passwords, API keys, JWT secrets). Add .env to .gitignore immediately. Commit .env.example with placeholder values to document required variables. Use your deployment platform's environment variable configuration (Vercel, Railway, Fly.io, etc.) for production secrets.

What is the difference between .env, .env.local, and .env.production?▼

.env is the base file loaded in all environments. .env.local overrides for local development (never committed). .env.production is loaded in production. .env.test is for test environments. Next.js, Vite, and Create React App all support this precedence chain. .env.local always takes priority over .env.
