Frequently Asked Questions
What is this tool for?▼
This tool converts plain CSS property declarations into their closest Tailwind CSS utility class equivalents. Paste your CSS on the left, get the matching Tailwind classes on the right. It covers spacing, typography, colors, flex, grid, borders, shadows, sizing, and more.
Does this work with arbitrary Tailwind values?▼
Yes. When a CSS value doesn't match a standard Tailwind scale, the converter outputs an arbitrary value class like p-[13px], text-[#ff5500], or w-[375px]. Arbitrary values are supported in Tailwind CSS v3+ and let you stay in Tailwind even for one-off values.
What CSS properties are supported?▼
The converter handles: margin/padding (m-, p-), font-size (text-), font-weight (font-), line-height (leading-), color/background-color (text-, bg-), width/height (w-, h-), border-radius (rounded-), border-width (border-), box-shadow (shadow-), display, flex properties, grid properties, overflow, opacity, z-index, and position utilities.
Why does some CSS not have a Tailwind equivalent?▼
Tailwind focuses on the most common CSS patterns. Complex selectors, pseudo-elements, CSS animations, and some advanced CSS Grid areas don't have direct utility equivalents. For these cases, you'd use Tailwind's @layer utilities to define custom classes, or use arbitrary variants like [&:nth-child(2)]:text-blue-500.
Can I use the output directly in my HTML?▼
Yes — the output is a space-separated list of Tailwind class names you can paste directly into a class="" or className="" attribute. If you're using Tailwind CSS v3+ with JIT mode (the default), all these classes are generated on demand when detected in your source files.
